Can-Nor Electric ltd. was incorporated in 1987 by Jørg Skavas. Our electrical roots go back to Oslo, Norway where Jørg Skavas (Jerry) received his electrical apprenticeship training & certification. Jerry immigrated to Winnipeg, Canada in 1969. He began his Canadian electrical career working for Benson Electric. Benson Electric relocated to Kelowna in 1977. Projects included Town Center mall, Interior Savings credit union building (mission park), plus many more. In 1987 Harvey Benson decided it was time to retire from the electrical industry. At that time Jerry purchased the company and changed its name. Can-Nor Electric was born and Jerry began instructing & mentoring his 2 sons, Thomas & Christian. With an emphasis on quality & integrity, Jerry was always around to ensure that the job was done right!
The late 1980s & early 1990s brought alot of design build commercial installations including projects like Summerland City Hall and Fire Halls. It became quite apparent that design build projects were a natural fit for us. The commercial design/build market led us into the custom residential market. As we received more requests to do large residential custom homes, we saw the need to learn and achieve certifications for all things “high end” residential. This segment of the market has definitely become our specialty and our passion.
Since 1987 Can-Nor Electric has grown to specialize in custom/design build electrical applications. With Jerry officially retiring in 2014, his two sons now oversee the company, however he can still be found helping out wherever he can.
